More correctly known by its chemical name, glycerol, this compound is an odorless, clear, viscous liquid. A sugar alcohol, glycerin can be used to add sweetness as well as to keep products moist since it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. It is also used as an edible lubricant for molds.
